Robert Marler currently the Principal Keyboardist of the Nashville Symphony and a Professor of Music at the Belmont University School of Music where he teaches primarily piano principals and performance majors.

Robert Marler is pianist with the Nashville Symphony and has performed on 12 GRAMMY® winning recordings. The winning categories have included “Best Classical Album” and “Best Orchestral Performance.” Dr. Marler has participated on more than 30 recordings with the Nashville Symphony,Buffalo Philharmonic and the Nashville Chamber Orchestra for Naxos, the world’s leading Classical Music label. Conductors for the Grammy wins have included Leonard Slatkin, Kenneth Schermerhorn, and Giancarlo Guerrero.

Led by music director Giancarlo Guerrero, the Nashville Symphony has been an integral part of the Music City sound since 1946. In a typical year, the ensemble performs more than 150 concerts annually, with a focus on contemporary American orchestral music through collaborations with composers including Jennifer Higdon, Terry Riley, Joan Tower and Aaron Jay Kernis. The orchestra is equally renowned for its commissioning and recording projects with Nashville-based artists including bassist Edgar Meyer, banjoist Béla Fleck, singer-songwriter Ben Folds and electric bassist Victor Wooten.

Live in Concert movies have included many of the greatest soundtracks concerts from the Harry Potters movies, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, ET, Home Alone, Singin’ in the Rain, the Wizard of Oz and many more.

Marler has also recorded for the Sony Play Station, TV shows, and various artists.

As Principal Keyboardist of the Nashville Symphony, Robert Marler performs regularly on piano, celesta, and synth.
These include most Classical series, the Movie series, many Pops concerts, children’s concerts, and various special concerts.
Marler is also a frequent soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician and accompanist throughout the country.

He has performed chamber music or accompanied numerous instrumentalists from renowned orchestras worldwide, including the London Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the French National Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony, the Louisville Symphony and others.

He has also performed with the Alabama Symphony in Birmingham and Buffalo Philharmonic where he recorded several releases for the Naxos label including The Richard Strauss orchestral suite from Ariadne auf Naxos, Respighi’s Pines of Rome and Fountains of Rome.

He has recorded and performed as soloist with the Chattanooga Symphony/Opera. He was soloist on The Rachmaninov Concerto No. 2 and the Four Seasons of Marcrest composed by Landes and arranged by Bill Pursell.

Marler has performed several all-piano ballets with the Nashville Ballet and Louisville Ballet in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and the Kentucky Performing Arts Center. In addition to solo piano ballets, he has performed several works for piano and orchestra that accompanied the dancers. He has collaborated with Nashville Ballet Artistic Director Paul Vasterling in the creation of three ballets, including one collaboration for the Metro Arts Commission and Oasis Center.

Prior to teaching at Belmont, Marler was a member of the faculty of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Marler graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Missouri, an M.M. from Indiana University, where he was a student of Sidney Foster and a D.M.A. from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, as a student of Richard Morris.

Dr. Marler gives masterclasses and is a frequent adjudicator throughout the region.
